EVANSTON, Ill. – Maureen Palchak has been named Associate A.D for Recreation & Athletic Management, Northwestern's Combe Family Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Jim Phillips announced Monday. She will lead the department's efforts in recreation, competitive (intramural and club) sports, fitness, aquatics and more.
"Maureen Palchak has been at the center of one of our core missions as we have emphasized service and social growth, and I'm elated for her to take on this new opportunity," said Phillips. "It's always rewarding to be able to promote from within, as it speaks to Northwestern's ability to recruit, develop and retain outstanding people. At the end of a comprehensive, national search, it was clear Maureen's relationships within our department, across campus, and throughout Evanston make her an ideal fit for this essential role."
Now more than 10 years into her Northwestern tenure, Palchak most recently served as the Wildcats Associate A.D. for Community Relations, leading all department philanthropic initiatives for student-athletes and staff. Under her direction, Northwestern's more than 500 student-athletes had 100-percent participation serving the Evanston and Chicagoland communities last year. Additionally she oversaw development of NUDAR's annual Staff Service Day which impacted numerous beneficiaries during its eighth iteration in early June. Over the last several years she also has played a large role in the department's communication and collaboration with the City of Evanston.
"Northwestern has been my home for more than a decade, and I'm thrilled to take on this new responsibility," said Palchak. "I'm grateful for Jim Phillips, President Schapiro and the executive leadership team for entrusting me with this new and exciting role. I have great respect for the growth that has occurred within the recreation department under the leadership of Dan Bulfin. Recreation plays a critical role both supporting students and as a first-point-of-contact between the University and people of all ages from the surrounding community. I can't wait to continue to foster that extraordinary relationship."
A native of Marshall, Michigan, Palchak's Wildcats career began in the Northwestern ticket office where, in addition to managing customer service for group and individual ticket sales, she worked closely with the development staff on fundraising efforts. In January of 2011 she transitioned into a role as Assistant Director of Marketing/Community Relations, responsible for coordinating community service initiatives across all 19 varsity programs.
Palchak was a four-year letterwinner on the Saint Mary's College swim team, and set five program records during her time in South Bend. She also earned a master's degree in sports administration from Northwestern University in 2008. Palchak takes over leadership of Northwestern Recreation from Bulfin, who retired last month after four decades of service to the University.
